Leveling the Playing Field Asthma Scholarship

The Christopher D. Redding Youth Asthma Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization with the mission of educating, advocating, and providing services for youth and families that are affected by a life which includes asthmatic conditions. The focus of the foundation is to lessen the adverse health effects on asthmatic children and young adults that are involved in athletics.
As a part of our foundational charter, the Christopher D. Redding Youth Asthma Foundation seeks to award annual scholarships to qualified high school seniors who are student-athletes and who have a medically documented diagnosis of asthma.
Scholarship applications are made available to assist with college education expenses for those students that have been confirmed to attend a two-year community college or a four-year college or university as a full-time student the following Fall. Scholarship award recipients will receive an award no less than $2,000.00.
Eligibility
To be considered for this college scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:
1. You are a high school senior graduating by June of the current school year.
2. You participate in (a minimum of one) high school sports activity.
3. You have been involved in charitable activities such as community service or volunteer work.
4. You can provide documented evidence of an asthma medical condition by a medical professional.
Selection Criteria
All applications will be reviewed and selected by the Board of Directors of the Christopher D. Redding Youth Asthma Foundation. Scholarship recipients will be based upon student essay submissions, letters of recommendation provided by both a high school athletic director or coach and community service organization, and the content submitted on the attached student application form that has been provided.
Aspiring Nurse Scholarship

Nursing Schools Almanac is proud to announce our third annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. We will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:
- A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics
- A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare
Competition eligibility
This scholarship competition is open to all U.S. high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs.

Q. Is there an Adult Astronaut Camp?
A. DNC Parks and Resorts at Kennedy Space Center, the contractor who runs the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, has started a program called “Astronaut Training Experience,” which is a one-day extensive “astronaut training” program for teens over 14 years old and adults. Q. Can you give me some information about Camp Kennedy Space Center?
A. Camp Kennedy Space Center is a weeklong summer day camp. Camp sessions are available for students entering second through eleventh grade and run from June through August. Camp KSC includes motion-based space simulations, team-building space exploration activities, and question-and-answer sessions with actual astronauts. The activities are led by specially trained, certified teachers and educators.
The program also includes a full week of space activities, transportation to exciting Kennedy Space Center locations, a complimentary T-shirt, hot lunches and snacks, various take-home materials and handouts, and a graduation ceremony and certificate. Multicultural Visit Programs
Diversity of thought and experience is valued as central to the Reed experience. Who we are—in our many identities, experiences, and ways of being—informs not only what, how, and why we learn, but what we bring to the conference table, where a plurality of ideas and voices deepens the conversation.
Junior Scholars Program
Junior Scholars, Reed’s spring travel scholarship, invites a highly qualified group of high school juniors from historically underrepresented communities to visit Reed. Students are encouraged to visit during our Junior Visit Day. All air travel, on-campus meals, and on-campus lodging will be covered by the college.
Visiting Reed is transformative. We have a saying here that “only Reed feels like Reed” and we make sure that all of our campus visitors have the opportunity to truly engage with our community.
As part of this program, you’ll be able to:
• stay overnight with a current Reed student;
• attend classes of interest;
• enjoy meals with current Reed students;
• learn more about Reed through an information session and campus tour;
• attend Junior Visit Day (if you are selected to come on February 20).

Discover Reed Fly-in Program
Reed invites a highly qualified group of high school seniors from around the US to campus for a three-day, two-night exploration of Reed and the City of Portland. Students stay in residence halls with current students and participate in Discover Reed, a program of classroom visits and student-professor engagement opportunities. Just ten minutes from downtown Portland, Reed also arranges trips to explore highlights of the city. All travel is arranged and paid for by the college (including flights to and from Portland).
Spring Invitational Program for Admitted Students
Reed offers travel vouchers each spring to admitted students from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds for visiting campus during Reed Admit Days or through our regular campus visit program during the month of April. There is no separate application for the program. Selected students will receive an invitation and travel voucher at the same time that they receive their decisions, in their admission packets.
